Our humble abode (in the beginning)

Ever since my hubby and I moved into our first house over the summer last year, we have been quite busy making our house into a "home".  Luckily in our house hunting process, we were able to find one within our budget that fit our needs:

• 3 bedrooms/2.5 baths
• 2 car garage
• central heat/ac
• small backyard for our little chihuahua - Pedro

I think any normal first-time homebuyer would want a house that is move-in ready... one that has updated flooring, fixtures, appliances, countertops etc.  We sought after homes that were in OK shape that needed some minor flipping. One, because a brand new spankin' house was just not in our budget... and two, because we most likely would want to move again in 5+ years.

The house we ended up buying only required a major paint job from top to bottom, and good carpet cleaning from the stairs to the bedrooms. The flooring downstairs and in the master bedroom fortunately had wood laminate.  We ended up installing laminate throughout the upstairs for consistency, and painted the staircase white.  It took us about 5 months to finish, mostly because we were in the midst of planning and recovering from our September wedding.

I'll humor you with some cringing "before" pictures of our house when we first moved in:

This is a view from our living room, looking up to the 3rd bedroom loft and stairs. Canary yellow, with apple green accented walls.  The previous owners were pretty notorious for accenting wall colors.

A view into the dining room and 3rd bedroom loft. That brass plated chandelier has got to go. We have yet to replace it.

This is our small TV room (connected to the kitchen). Band-aid color walls accented with burgundy... a vomiting color combination.

A small peak into our kitchen. Our kitchen cabinets will be updated eventually, but for now they function just fine.  We could use a bit more counter space in the future, as well.

This is a view inside our 3rd bedroom loft.  Again, we have the burgundy walls, and you can see the grody berber carpet (which have already been replaced with laminate).

Here's a view inside the master bedroom.  And again, we have burgundy walls.  We also have french doors.  You can see the washer and dryer area is right across the room, which is pretty convenient for us.

Here's another view of our master bedroom (looking in).  Mustard yellow accent walls with some scary black sponge paint action going on... the other side of this room was burgundy.  How the previous owners came up with these color combinations is beyond me.

This is the 2nd bedroom. The hubby and I called this the "grape room" for obvious reasons.

Yes folks, you are still looking at the 2nd bedroom. The other side of the room was painted dark purple.

So there you have it - our humble abode in a rainbow nutshell! Granted, the walls do NOT look like this anymore.  I'll post some "after pictures" as soon as I take some good shots :).
